Employee FAQs

  • All Full Time employees are eligible for 80 hours (10 days) of PTO per calendar year in addition to company-provided holidays. 

    Upon hire, 8 hours of PTO are provided, and all additional PTO is accrued at a rate of 3.07 hours per 80-hour-pay period up to a maximum of 120 hours. Once an employee reaches 120 hours, accrual will pause until PTO is used.

    You must have accrued your PTO hours prior to taking them. 

    Unused PTO hours at the end of the year rollover, with a cap of 120 PTO hours. 

    All PTO must be approved by your manager and reported via the Time Off Notice Form in the Employee Portal. 

    Unpaid time off may be approved by your manager on a case-by-case basis. 

    Part Time employees (less than 25 hours a week), contracted and temporary employees are not eligible for PTO. Any unpaid time off must be approved by your manager on a case-by-case basis and reported via the Time Off Notice Form in the Employee Portal.

  • Axios NYC observes the following federal holidays each year:

    • New Year’s Day

    • Martin Luther King Jr. Day

    • Memorial Day

    • Independence Day (July 4th)

    • Labor Day

    In addition to these federal holidays, Axios NYC provides:

    • Thanksgiving Break: Offices are closed on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Thanksgiving week.

    • Winter Break: Offices are closed for two full calendar weeks. The exact dates for Winter Break are scheduled two weeks prior to the first applicable working day in January and communicated to employees in advance.

    During these observed holidays and company breaks, offices will be closed and all eligible full-time employees will receive holiday pay. This time is separate from PTO and does not reduce an employee’s accrued PTO balance.

  • Unused PTO hours at the end of the year are are eligible for rollover, with a cap of 120 PTO hours.

    All PTO must be approved by your manager and reported via the Time Off Notice Form in the Employee Portal.

  • Speak to your supervisor to discuss your request and receive their direct approval. Once approved, you must fill out the Time Off Notice Form in the Employee Portal in order to use your PTO.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: To use your PTO hours, you must complete and submit the Time Off Notification form. PTO cannot be applied retroactively or processed without this step. If the form is not submitted, the requested time will not be recognized as PTO, and the corresponding hours will not be deducted from your balance.

    Failure to submit PTO requests properly may result in disciplinary action.

  • PTO is approved on a case-by case basis. It is not automatically approved and is dependent upon factors including company case load and current projects.

  • Axios NYC provides sick leave in compliance with the New York State Paid Sick Leave Law.

    Accrual: Employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a minimum of 40 hours (5 days) per calendar year.

    Usage: Sick leave may be used for an employee’s own mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; diagnosis, care, or preventive care; or to care for a family member for the same purposes. Sick leave may also be used if the employee or their family member is the victim of domestic violence, a family offense, sexual offense, stalking, or human trafficking.

    Carryover: Unused sick leave will carry over to the next calendar year, but use may be capped at 40 hours per year.

    Requesting Sick Leave: When possible, employees should notify their supervisor as soon as practicable before the start of the workday.

    Sick leave will not be counted against your attendance record.
